Be cunning, play smart, and learn how to play craps the ideal way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps formed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the fortification’s name.
Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he designed the spots for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
